Follow Kancil's story, where his happy life in the forest are taken down by the selfish men who poach his friends. To avenge them, Kancil decided to hunt down the men that killed them

A transmedia project to address wildlife trafficking. The project consists of a zine, animation, and a mock-up video game trailer.

I wanted to create a project that caught the audience's attention by using stylized "family friendly" design, contrasting to its dark theme.

Wildlife trafficking is a multi-billion business in which rare wildlife are being trafficked like illegal drugs and arms. Due to its luxurious branding, many people forgotten the damage it has done to nature.

Theme and Idea

The idea of turning innocent stories such as kids fables into something dark is the base of the project's concept. I took inspiration from various adult medias that looks like for kids. I wanted the contrast to caught the audience off guard.

Character Design

I chose a mousedeer, a victim of wildlife trafficking, as the protagonist of this project based on the Indonesian fable "Si Kancil". I'd want its design to be innocent and cunning. Apparently, mousedeers do look derpy, I took this a design advantage.

Some early design has Kancil with a big Joker-like smile showing its psychopath personality, but it's harder to show its innocent side with this design.

Zine

I wanted the zine to look like a children storybook to be in-line with the project's "adult medias that looks like for kids" theme. Over the course of the zine, the colour becomes darker to reflect the story

Illustration are done in Procreate and zine is compiled with Adobe Indesign

Zine early drafts

Mock-up Game Trailer 

The concept of the game is a first-person horror game. It's inspired by several indie games where they use their graphical limitation as a style advantage. In this case, the game will be using 2D assets to keep the cartoon style on a 3D environment. 

The mock-up game trailer is animated in After Effects, utilizing the software's 3D feature

Animation

The animation's setting will be different because the story took place in an office. Early on, I'd like the animation to have more comedic tone. 

Storyboards

Background

I wanted the background to have an "unsettling" feel in it. I used a lot of dark blue and purple colours as well as airbrush for shading to emulate this feeling.
